It is summer time. Most of us has already booked our summer vacation. Some have gone through a travel agent. Then there are those who have listen commercial William Scanter and used PriceLine.com to get the lowest rate. But does PriceLine.com really give the lowest rate?
In a effort to look a where to go for the best deal I took the major online booking websites and gave them a task. A couple that is 40 years want to spend 2 nights in San Francisco leaving Boise ID. They are going to book their room for August 14th, 15th. A mid August weekend. Now let us see who has the best rate!
PriceLine.com – Here I chose a 3 star hotel in the Fisherman’s Wharf district. The search was simple. It came back with the lowest price of $45 per night. At the start I was told $123 was the best price.
Hotels.com was my next stop for internet search of the best deal. Hotels.com offered me the Holiday Inn near Fisherman’s Wharf for $185, as there best deal.
Travelocity.com offered me the same Holiday Inn for the same price as Hotels.com for $185.
Orbitz.com, also came in with the Holiday Inn for $185.00.
Expedia.com did not have a very easy search for a hotel near Fisherman’s Wharf, but I finally found one. Expedia.com only gave me 2 star hotel for $93 and a 3.5 star motel for $139.
KAYAK.com of all the online travel booking website was the easiest to use. They made my search easy. KAYAK.com offer me hotel rooms starting a $58.
Bottom-line: PriceLine.com was the best deal in my search. KAYAK.com came in a strong second place. What I did like about KAYAK.com it does give the options to compare with other online travel agencies.
Now I want to put in a little word to wise for those who don’t travel very much. The prices that I referenced does not include local room and sales tax. This could be as much as 10% more. Then hotels always have ways to up sale you. In room stocked refrigerator, room service, and even extra towels can be added to your bill at the time of check out.
