It seems like anytime that I get concerned about out healthcare insurance is when there is a need to go to the doctor. This was true, last week, when I made a visit to my dentist.
After he did his drilling, flicking and poking, he sets me up in the dental chair. He moves to a more comfortable chair in front of me. Then we have our usually catch up talk for a few minutes before I leave. This time we started talking about health insurance and the changes that are coming up about next year?
He said that he is seeing quite a few people taking care of needed dental work, now. They are afraid that their benefits will be reduced to the point of not being able to get the needed dental work done.
Just yesterday, I was talking with a friend who is canceling his health insurance through work, because it had a double digit increase. He could not afford that much to be taken out of his pay check. He still has coverage through his wife’s work. Next year their healthcare coverage will be greatly reduced from this year.
Another friend’s employer plans to cut the employees contribution to zero. However, the maximum yearly benefit is to be no more than $2,300. Even the U.S. government agrees this does not cover the average persons yearly medical expenses.
Another family does not have family insurance for the whole family. They found a way to beat the monthly out of the pocket premium. The mother and daughter are under one policy, through her work. The father is on another, through his work. Then they pay for a supplement accident insurance. I was told they doing it this way or they would be paying another $200 per month.
For many people the end of the calendar year is time to reevaluate their health insurance. I found an online calculator that will help you compare insurance coverage. You can find it at Money-zine.com. It pretty straight forward, but considering of the ins and out along with health insurance complexities, it will help.
I know, if you are like me, you are listening to the news and reading various blogs about what is going on in Washington about healthcare reform. It is very hard to find any object sources that talk about what is going happening.
