It is getting close. Don’t panic! Mother’s Day is just a little over a week away. May 9th is the day we celebrate the important role mother’s have in our lives. They often go unappreciated all year long. That is why we take one day out of the year to show them that we appreciate all that they do for us.
Did you know there is one website that is solely dedicated to Mother’s Day and helping us show our appreciation to mom? It is called DayForMother.com. For some background for the various traditions surrounding Mother’s Day, this would be the place to go.
This time of year like any other, there are ads on television, radio, and all around us saying that we must buy mom this very expensive gift or we really don’t love her. I am here today to tell you from experience it is not the gift. It is the meaning behind giving the gift you give. Something as simple as a hand drawn picture for a child can send a mother into tears quicker than a set of diamond ear rings.
In the past few days, I took an informal survey from a few moms. I asked them, “What did they want for Mother’s Day?” Below are seven of the answers that were most memorable.
- I want to be able to watch Netflix from my computer.
- I would like to get a box of chocolates.
- I want a day where I can just catch up on some lost sleep.
- I would like the iPad for Mother’s Day.
- I want is to go to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory with my husband and kids.
- I want a gift certificate to get my hair highlighted and cut.
- I get flowers every year and my girls and I plant them in pots and water them all summer long.
- I want my mom to watch the kids so my husband and I can go out to dinner and a movie.
- I want to see my son come home for Iraq.
- A day at the spa would be nice.
