Walk Through OverStock

July 19, 2011
By

It was just last week was the first time I had visited OverStock.com in quite some time. The first thing I noticed was there was some changes made. I quickly made note to myself that I wanted to come back and spend some time.

Did you know that OverStock.com was started in 1999 by a  Dr. Patrick M. Byrne. He recognized the potential in liquidating excess inventory through this relativity new media called the Internet. He had the idea of offering a wide range of products at bargain prices of closeout merchandise.

Shortly after their launch there was these neat clean television commercials about OverStock.com. After 10 years of success there are still going strong. The commercials still have the white, clean not nonsense approach to bring visitors to there website, as portrayed in their 10 year commercial.

Enough about the history and commercials, let us look at what is inside OverStock.com.

When my web browser first opened up OverStock.com I was met with a clean looking black lettering on a white background. I was not overwhelmed with merchandise, like some other online stores that I have visited. No frills just plan and simple.

The top left and upper left column was the menu. Along the left side was the area where I could browse or shops. When I ran my cursor over those categories, a much more large list popped out of detailed products. I did not have to hurry up and select an item. Along the top were five more tabs; Shopping, Cars, Marketplace, Vacations and Insurance.

Since going straight to OverStock.com takes me directly to Shopping, I decided to click on the the next tab, Cars.  The Cars section opened up with a picture of a blue car. To the left of it I was asked what kind of car I was my interest, and my location. From there I was taken to a list of cars in my area. Under the Cars menu was a sub menu of New, Used, Warranty, and etc.

Marketplace took me to a web page were I was greeted by simple black text on a light gray field stating the Marketplace will be closing on July 22, 2011. Marketplace is and soon will be no more a place online auction of some goods. An Overstock.com version of eBay.com

On to the Vacation tab, where we are greeted with beautiful color pictures of a couple snorkeling in a clear blue water. Below them were more beautifully color photos of the skyline of New Orleans, and San Diego.  The booking process and the prices are definitely worth coming back and comparing at at future date.

Last but not lease is the Insurance tab. Here you can compare auto and home insurance. What is even nicer you can walk through their online forms or call and have someone do it for you.

Bottom-line: There is not much I could not find at OverStock.com. There even have a Clearance Bin, and there is even an app from the Android Market for OverStock.com.

I was surprised to see Cars, Insurance and Vacations sold on Over Stock. I have always pictured them to just sell clothes, lamps and chairs. I was wrong.

If you are looking for a bargain and don’t mind waiting a few days, OverStock.com would be a place to check out.
