Tale of Two Printers

When our last HP color printer died of exhaustion, we acquired a LaserJet4L, which we have used for the past couple of years.  The best thing about these older LaserJets is that that they are so well engineered that they will not die.  Unfortunately, finding new cartridges is nearly impossible, since HP has new products and no longer services the LJ4 printers.

The LJ4 worked well until recently, when we decided to start producing our sales materials in-house to save some money on printing – especially since we want to do full color presentations and the companies that can do color copies want to charge us fifty-cents a side.  That is way too expensive for our start-up project.

We decided to look at various printers and went to our local Best Buy store.  We looked at all of the various printers for sale and were encouraged to look at the Kodak ESP6150, since it would to everything we wanted:  Print, fax, copy and scan.  The sales pitch was excellent, but we wanted to get a better perspective on our purchase, so we contacted The Shopping Nazi to get his recommendations.

TSN did some research on consumer comments on the ESP6150 and then searched for other products that would just as well or better.  The next day he recommended we buy the HP4500 OfficeJet, which would do everything the Kodak would do, but at a better price.

We bought the HP4500 at a considerable savings and have been very happy with the purchase.  It does everything we need and is extremely easy to use.  The chart below shows how much The Shopping Nazi was able to save us, while adding value to our purchase:

Now TSN’s usual fee is half of the savings or $91.51, but on the day we went shopping we were able to convince him that lunch was a lot more valuable than his fee, because he was really hungry.
