This week we have heard reports about gas prices are going up. After hitting a low of close to $3 per gallon for most of January, we are expecting gas prices to start climbing again. With gas prices climbing, the cost of driving our vehicles one mile has started to increase. For those of you who commute any distant to and from work, it will be a big impact on your budget. Like through out mo...

Las Vegas is a great place to go for a getaway vacation. It is also know as one of the most popular places to hold a trade show. If you look at the Las Vegas Convention Convention Center there is back to back trade shows. Gas Mileage Lies
On morning news there was a sniped about a lady who sued Honda for misrepresentation of their gas mileage. It was in small claims court, but still won $10,000. Interesting! It has become pretty much accepted, by all of us, what the sticker gas mileage would be under ideal condition. I am glad someone has stepped up to say, "We are not going to take it anymore!" When I look at different makes...
Touch Screen Desktop Computers
I first saw touch screens computers in the food processing industry back in the late 90's. Since then the technology and the price has been slowly been dropping. As a result we now see more cell phones with touch screens than without. The overall adoption of a touch screen desktop computer has been slow mostly because of the cost. We are seeing the price going under the $1,000 mark. This makes ...
Social Responsible Buying
Last week the name Foxconn and Apple were in all the headlines. It was not about great profits, or some new electronic gadget. It was about the inhumane treatment of the workers in China. What is interesting to note is that Foxconn does not just manufacture electronics for Apple. Foxconn manufacture over 50% of the electronics sold in the United States. Mistreatment of works or labors misbeh...

Midday on any Saturday or Sunday, at Wal Mart, finds families and couples getting their weekly shopping done. We are at the end of January. People are starting to recover from the Christmas shopping madness. Walking we were greeted by a your 60 oriental lady. Search for a Practical Usable Tablet
Since before Thanksgiving I have been slowing giving into the idea of getting a tablet. I have looked at all the major brands of tablets and eReaders. I have been trying to imagine how often I would use it. I watch how other people would use their tablets. While attending a local trade show I noticed a large majority of the vendors were using iPads. There were only a few who had other tablets....
Cruise or Not to Cruise
Here we are at the end of January 2012. Texas is getting heavy rains. Snow and Cold is covering most all of the northern hemisphere. I close my eyes and think of a hot summer day with the sun beating down on may face. Then in an instant, I jump into a nice cool swimming pool. Yes, what better time to plan a summer vacation than when the chilling cold is biting your bones, and the sky is all gloomy...

Patent Wars Cell Phone/Tablets

Have you been listening to the tech news? Apple is in the process of suing HTC, Motorola, and Samsung. A judge has forced Samsung to stop selling the Galaxy Tab in Europe. HP, in a panic, started selling their TouchPad for $99.

Just this week Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs has stepped down.  Now investors and Apple users are worried about the future of the Apple products. The stock market just yesterday devalued Apple as a company.

Where does this leave me and my cell phone? Granted my cell phone is more of a computer than a cell phone. Over that past couple of years we have seen great changes in the way we use our cell phones. I believe the basic law of physics is being applied to what we are seeing. “For every action there is a equal reaction”.

How Do You Get Your Internet?

How do you get your internet? I don’t mean what type of computer or phone you use to get the internet. I mean what type of internet service to you use for the internet?

Back in the very beginning of internet it was delivered to computer, the internet was delivered over telephone lines. Today we can get faster access to the internet over telephone lines. We can get access to the internet over the same cable that brings us our television shows. We can get internet access beamed down to us from satellites  in circling the earth. We can even get internet over our cell phones.

Shopping for Just a Cell Phone

Last week I received a phone call from a gentleman who is in his mid 60′s. He was calling me for help in finding a cell phone.  He was looking for a cell phone that is just a phone. He did not want any 3G or 4G. He does not text  or want take pictures.

As strange as it may sound, it is harder to find just a cell phone. At the end of 2010, it is much easier to find a handheld computer that is also a cell phone.

Even though it is just a few days before Christmas,I set out to find just a cell phone. My hopes weren’t to high. I just wanted to see if I could find just a cell phone.

Blackberry Cell Phones

For years Blackberry has been considered the safe and secure phone for businesses. In the past couple of years Blackberry has started marketing their phones of the general public, even the younger generation.

What is great about Blackberry is how they have their own infrastructure when it comes to security, email, and texting. Yes, you may be using T-mobile as your cell phone carrier but the important transmission is run through Blackberry. That is why you need a Blackberry data package with your cell phone plan. The phone will not work without it.

There are 6 current models in the Blackberry stable. They are the Torch, Style, Curve, Pearl, Bold, and Storm.

Clear Expectation of Service

Several years ago, I worked briefly at this computer store. The owner would change the terms of service at least once a week, if not more. When I left there the Terms of Service was very fine print on the back of every receipt. The receipt was printed on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper.

This is nothing unusual. Every business has literature that states where their responsibly starts and where the customer’s responsible begins.

Phone Recon – Motorola Dash

At first glance the Motorola Dash looks like the traditional Blackberry phone. It uses the Window Mobile, and sold exclusively by T-mobile.

The Dash has been out since 2006. At that time PCMag.com reviewed the Dash. It was when smart phones where just starting to get popular, and when touch screen phones were rumors. Back then PCMag.com reviewers and users liked the Dash. They rated it 4 to 5 stars out of 5 stars.

Phone Recon – Motorola CLIQ

Last week I was driving by my local T-Mobile store, when I remember that I was coming due for a phone upgrade in a couple of months. I turned into a open parking space in front of my local T-Mobile store.

When I walked into the T-Mobile store, I was greeted by a pleasant speaking dark haired lady in the traditional T-Mobile purple dress shirt.

I explained to her I was getting close to my time for an upgrade. I wanted to replace my old Blackberry 8700. It has been a great phone, but little things like lack of camera was starting to bug me.
