Gas Mileage Lies
On morning news there was a sniped about a lady who sued Honda for misrepresentation of their gas mileage. It was in small claims court, but still won $10,000. Interesting! It has become pretty much accepted, by all of us, what the sticker gas mileage would be under ideal condition. I am glad someone has stepped up to say, "We are not going to take it anymore!" When I look at different makes...
Touch Screen Desktop Computers
I first saw touch screens computers in the food processing industry back in the late 90's. Since then the technology and the price has been slowly been dropping. As a result we now see more cell phones with touch screens than without. The overall adoption of a touch screen desktop computer has been slow mostly because of the cost. We are seeing the price going under the $1,000 mark. This makes ...
Social Responsible Buying
Last week the name Foxconn and Apple were in all the headlines. It was not about great profits, or some new electronic gadget. It was about the inhumane treatment of the workers in China. What is interesting to note is that Foxconn does not just manufacture electronics for Apple. Foxconn manufacture over 50% of the electronics sold in the United States. Mistreatment of works or labors misbeh...

Search for a Practical Usable Tablet
Since before Thanksgiving I have been slowing giving into the idea of getting a tablet. I have looked at all the major brands of tablets and eReaders. I have been trying to imagine how often I would use it. I watch how other people would use their tablets. While attending a local trade show I noticed a large majority of the vendors were using iPads. There were only a few who had other tablets....
Cruise or Not to Cruise
Here we are at the end of January 2012. Texas is getting heavy rains. Snow and Cold is covering most all of the northern hemisphere. I close my eyes and think of a hot summer day with the sun beating down on may face. Then in an instant, I jump into a nice cool swimming pool. Yes, what better time to plan a summer vacation than when the chilling cold is biting your bones, and the sky is all gloomy...

Food for Thought – Black Friday

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on November 25, 2011 in Bargin Places, Budget, Shopping with - Comments: Comments Off

If you are like me, you are so don’t want to see any more food. You have stuffed yourself, on Thanksgiving Day. Most of you will be reading this post after hitting all those early morning Black Friday sales. Some of you will be waiting for the Cyber Monday sales.

Yes there are some great deals out there. However, there are some published deals that are not really deals. On Thanksgiving Day, I got an email from Amazon.com. It was telling me about some great deals on selected items.

Since I am currently looking for a 15″ Acer laptop for a family member. So I did some price comparisons. Amazon.com was showing me a of price was $349. The same laptop from Wal Mart the week prior to Thanksgiving was selling for $318.

Just a few days ago, I was talking to this lady, who with some friends and family members head out to different stores on Black Friday. They text each other as to which stores have what price on which items. The individual that is at that store, where it is cheapest makes the purchase for those who are not.

We are less than two months away from Christmas Day. The holiday shopping seasons officially starts in less than three weeks, with Black Friday. Already we are starting to see hints about Christmas shopping, and where the best deals will be at.

Commercials from Wal Mart stating the best deals will only be from them. Kmart has ran some commercials about how we need to use their Lay-A-Way plan as part of our Christmas shopping. Many other stores have already started displaying Christmas decorations.

Websites like TheBlackFriday.com have been posting what items are being sold and for how much. Then retailers like Target are wanting you to create an online account to see their Black Friday deals. Even the online retailers like Amazon.com are offering special deals from Black Friday thru Cyber Monday.

Football Party Shopping

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on September 10, 2011 in Budget, Food - Comments: Comments Off

It is FOOTBALL SEASON!!! The first local, college, and pro football games have been played. It is time for the tailgate cookouts, and weekend football parties. It is time to have friends over to watch and cheer our favorite teams, while we snack on finger food.

This the time where energy runs high as player battle on the gridiron. Fans are loyal to their favorite football teams. Colors are displayed proudly as we cheer our teams to hopeful victory.

We make each and every game even more special than it is. It almost becomes an infection where people to let football mania take over there lives. In doing so money is spent on t-shirts, hats, banners, and other items without thinking of family budget. Being a football fan can get expensive real quick real easy.

My wife and I are not huge football fans. We watch the game on TV when our favorite team is playing. If we are given free tickets to a game we go.

We have been talking about attending in one of the local college games. (That is BSU. Go Broncos!) The cost of tickets  around between the 30 yard lines on each side of the fifty, along with all the extras would run us about $200 person.

Shopping for a Winter Jacket

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on November 16, 2010 in Clothing - Comments: Comments Off

This last Saturday, the family and I went into Wal Mart to pick up a few things. That row in front of the cash register was a racks of coats. All ranging in the $20 to $40 range.

My first response when I saw all those coats was, “they could really keep me warm on a cold day”. I am sure we all have bought at one time or another a great looking or really cheap jacket. Then when the first cold day hits that jacket does not hold body heat any more than a thin sweater.

Personally, I prefer the layered approach when it comes to bundling up for a cold day. I start with a t-shirt, heavy shirt, sweat shirt, and then a jacket. This way I can peal off the layers as I need too.

How does The Shopping Nazi relax and unwind after a long hard week? Go Shopping? Yes, go shopping, but just any place. I like to go shopping at yard sales!

I am not into extreme sports. I do enjoy time with my family and friends. However, in the summer time when it gets close to Friday every muscle in my body starts to twitch. My thoughts start thinking of where I might in search of a yard sale, and what I might find.

DressBarn a Cut Above

It is not hard to give a woman some money and say, “Get a new outfit”. Some may like it to turning a kid loose in a candy store or putting a guy in the tool department at Sears.

I must stop here and give you a disclaimer. Like any red blood guy, when it comes to shopping with their wife, it can be quite a traumatic event. I give my wife a rough budget. She walks into the womens clothing section and I head the other way.

Most of the time when a sales person asks if they can help, their end goal is to get as much money out of you bank account and into theirs. This was not the case last Thursday.

That is what happen on January 21st, 2010. After going to several discount clothing store, my wife just could not find the right dress or outfit. Then she walked into the DressBarn.

5 Things That Annoy Shoppers

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on January 16, 2010 in Bargin Places, Business, Home - Comments: Comments Off

Christmas and New Years is over. We are 16 days into a new year. Most businesses use this time to regroup, examine profits and plan sales strategies for the 2010. Other stores are trying to unload unsold products.

After looking around, I see a lot of businesses who have closed their doors. There are still others who are downsizing. I cannot help think that all the stores that are currently empty and have gone out of business was because of driving customers away.

I know for myself the way I am treated by a business determines if I go back or not. Below is a list of the top 5 things that annoys me about a product or service.
