Las Vegas is a great place to go for a getaway vacation. It is also know as one of the most popular places to hold a trade show. Gas Mileage Lies
On morning news there was a sniped about a lady who sued Honda for misrepresentation of their gas mileage. It was in small claims court, but still won $10,000. Interesting! It has become pretty much accepted, by all of us, what the sticker gas mileage would be under ideal condition. I am glad someone has stepped up to say, "We are not going to take it anymore!" When I look at different makes...
Touch Screen Desktop Computers
I first saw touch screens computers in the food processing industry back in the late 90's. Since then the technology and the price has been slowly been dropping. As a result we now see more cell phones with touch screens than without. The overall adoption of a touch screen desktop computer has been slow mostly because of the cost. We are seeing the price going under the $1,000 mark. This makes ...
Social Responsible Buying
Last week the name Foxconn and Apple were in all the headlines. It was not about great profits, or some new electronic gadget. It was about the inhumane treatment of the workers in China. What is interesting to note is that Foxconn does not just manufacture electronics for Apple. Foxconn manufacture over 50% of the electronics sold in the United States. Mistreatment of works or labors misbeh...

Search for a Practical Usable Tablet
Since before Thanksgiving I have been slowing giving into the idea of getting a tablet. I have looked at all the major brands of tablets and eReaders. I have been trying to imagine how often I would use it. I watch how other people would use their tablets. While attending a local trade show I noticed a large majority of the vendors were using iPads. There were only a few who had other tablets....
Cruise or Not to Cruise
Here we are at the end of January 2012. Texas is getting heavy rains. Snow and Cold is covering most all of the northern hemisphere. I close my eyes and think of a hot summer day with the sun beating down on may face. Then in an instant, I jump into a nice cool swimming pool. Yes, what better time to plan a summer vacation than when the chilling cold is biting your bones, and the sky is all gloomy...

Shopping for the Chevy Equinox

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on September 1, 2010 in Automotive - Comments: 4 Comments »

The Chevy Equinox is classified in what some people want to call “plus-sized crossover, small SUV”. This basically means the Equinox is smaller than a full size SUV and larger than your standard crossover.

The much advertised feature of the Chevy Equinox is the rear seating and rear storage.  60/40-split rear seat that could be slid almost 8 inches front and rear. In the rear cargo section there is a self that increases storage options. This rear shelf can double as a picnic table.

Shopping for a Cadillac SRX

Posted By: TSN Boise on June 2, 2010 in Automotive - Comments: Comments Off

Ever since 1900 the name Cadillac has long been associated with luxury, quality and status. Today the name Cadillac is the standard that all other luxury cars must measure up to if not exceed. This week in Auto Recon we are looking a Cadillac’s version of crossover vehicle.

Edmunds.com was some what neutral about the Cadillac SRX. This luxury crossover SUV needed a make over. The second version is a definite  improvement over the first. Sales on the original did not win the hearts of very many crossover buyers. The Cadillac SRX looked weak when compared to other crossover vehicles like the Lexus RX.

Auto Recon – Lexus RX

This week we are going to take a look at what is classified as a luxury car. I don’t want to be in the rut of just looking at inexpensive vehicles. This week we are going to look at a higher end station wagon or crossover; the Lexus RX.

If you don’t know already, it helps to be aware that Lexus is a division of Toyota car company.

The Lexus RX model first hit the streets in 1999. The Lexus RX 300 became a pioneer in what is now known as Crossover vehicles. This is the blending of attributes of a truck and a passenger car.

Auto Recon – Saturn Outlook

Posted By: TSN Boise on March 31, 2010 in Automotive - Comments: 6 Comments »

Saturn was first marketed as a “different kind of car company.” Operated somewhat independently from its parent company (General Motors). It had its own assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Putting out unique models, along with a separate distribution network.

This week we are going to look at the Saturn Outlook. It is another one of those crossover vehicles that are a mixture of station wagon and SUV. The Outlook is related to other similar GM model, but the unique Saturn look and feel.

Auto Recon – Dodge Journey

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on January 27, 2010 in Automotive - Comments: Comments Off

This week we are going to look at the Dodge Journey. The Journey is a crossover from the classic station wagon and SUV. 2010 is the only the second production year for the Dodge Journey.

I would normally wait until a car has been on the street a couple of years before writing an Auto Recon. However, because of the requests I have had about the Journey and the reputation of Dodge’s minivan fleet, I thought I would at least introduce it here.

Auto Recon – Ford Edge

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on November 12, 2009 in Automotive - Comments: 3 Comments »

FordEdgeThe Ford Edge is another one of the motor vehicles that is half SUV and half sedan and half mini van. A three way halves? Well, a third of each, thus making it a true crossover. I should be nice The Ford Edge has only been around since 2007.

Most vehicles have a third-row seating, the Ford Edge opted to just have two. However, with just two row seating comes roomy second-row seat. The rear seats also recline. This is great for long trips.

You can also fold the rear seat forward (though not entirely flat) for increased cargo space. The Ford’s Edge storage capacity is less than other crossover class vehicles.
