Shopping for the Palm Pre
It has been over a year since Palm released the Palm Pre. At that time all the tech reviewers were joking that the Palm Pre was the pre-bankruptcy release for Palm. Well, Palm has not gone into bankruptcy. Three of the four major cell phone carriers offer the Palm Pre. In call seriousness the Palm cell phone is different than the Blackberry, or the many smart phones that use the Android operati...
Shopping for the Chevy Equinox

The much advertised feature of the Chevy Equinox is the rear seating and rear storage.  60/40-split rear seat that could be slid almost 8 inches front and rear. In the rear cargo section t...

Since then there has been several of money management programs to come on the market and many of them leave. Then in 2005, Aaron Patzer sai...

Clear Expectation of Service
Several years ago, I worked briefly at this computer store. The owner would change the terms of service at least once a week, if not more. When I left there the Terms of Service was very fine print on the back of every receipt. The receipt was printed on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. This is nothing unusual. Every business has literature that states where their responsibly starts and where ...
32 Inch LCD Recon
I love sitting around coffee shops, and lounge area. What I over hear is so amazing. Just the other day this guy asked a friend, "Where was the best place to get a LCD TV?" The friend answered quick, "Fred Meyer, they have the best prices." I was so tempted to lean over and ask what empirical data he was making statement. Instead I bit my tongue. Without any ceremony, I got up and walked t...

Mattress Recon – Intro
Next to marriage and underwear the mattress you sleep on is the next personal thing in your life. It has been my experience that what on individual sleeps well on is another individuals restless nights sleep. So when asked to help buy as mattress, I had to start with the basics. The number of different types of mattresses far exceeds the three Goldilocks came across in the three bears cottage. ...

Shopping with Daughter

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on October 3, 2009 in Home, Lifestyle - Comments: Comments Off

RavenSchool has just started. Some school districts are already giving kids take a couple days off while teachers are given in-service-training. Why teachers could not be given in-service-training during the summer months, is something I cannot understand.

So I decided this would be a good time to get my daughters perspective. I took her with me on one of my recon trips.

Now realize she is 9 years old going on 21. She is quite opinionated about what she likes and does not like. This is especally true when it comes to fashion. She may even be the next Raven-Symoné.

I thought the day would be a good learning experience for me. I have always known that if I bought anything at great savings, and it was not be used, when I had just wasted my money.

That was what happen when I bought some wooden trays. They were great for putting a dinner plate and glass on while eating a meal away from the table. At the time I thought it was a great deal. I got a set of four for $5. Do you know, they were only use about three times? Since then they have set in the corner.

Our first stop was Big Lots. I wanted to price some USB cables and kitchenware. She had quite another agenda. She was looking at the Halloween decorations. Here total focus was on all the ones that made scary sounds. Then she started looking a Halloween costumes.

Our next stop was a major learning experience. We went to Kmart. I was immediately dragged from the front door to the left where the children’s section was. Then through several racks of cloths. We finally stopped in front of the winter jackets.

The displayed jackets reminded me of an odd collection of Tibetan, 70′s and 50′s styles. I had no more than completed my first sentence, than I was corrected about what I saw on display.

My young 9 year old daughter not only told me what she would liked for a winter coat, but she proceeded to tell me what other young women and men considered to be in style for this winter. She started giving me an authoritative review of what is in and was is out of style.

What shocked me the most was not what she said, but how she said it. I did not realize my little girl knew anything other than cartoons and computer games.

By the way, the coat she pointed out to me looked like sheep skin that included a hoody. The price tag on it was only $16.95. In all truth, I expected that coat to cost 10 times that.
