If I Were Single Again
I want to start this post stating, by saying I do not wish to to be single again. I am perfectly happy being married. The whole reason for this title and this subject is what I have heard from young, middle aged. and older people who find themselves without a partner for one reason or the other. I have seen several single people with interesting attitudes toward money, and saving money. I thoug...

Now we know we got to get our wife...

With gas prices climbing, the cost of driving our vehicles one mile has started to increase. For those of you who commute any distant to and from work, it will be a big impact on your budget. Wonderful World of Trade Shows
Las Vegas is a great place to go for a getaway vacation. It is also know as one of the most popular places to hold a trade show. If you look at the Las Vegas Convention Convention Center there is back to back trade shows. Still for someone like me, who happens to love trade shows, it is not practical for me to spend so much time in Vegas. In fact there is another location where I can go to a tr...

Gas Mileage Lies
On morning news there was a sniped about a lady who sued Honda for misrepresentation of their gas mileage. It was in small claims court, but still won $10,000. Interesting! It has become pretty much accepted, by all of us, what the sticker gas mileage would be under ideal condition. I am glad someone has stepped up to say, "We are not going to take it anymore!" When I look at different makes...
Touch Screen Desktop Computers
I first saw touch screens computers in the food processing industry back in the late 90's. Since then the technology and the price has been slowly been dropping. As a result we now see more cell phones with touch screens than without. The overall adoption of a touch screen desktop computer has been slow mostly because of the cost. We are seeing the price going under the $1,000 mark. This makes ...
Social Responsible Buying
Last week the name Foxconn and Apple were in all the headlines. It was not about great profits, or some new electronic gadget. It was about the inhumane treatment of the workers in China. What is interesting to note is that Foxconn does not just manufacture electronics for Apple. Foxconn manufacture over 50% of the electronics sold in the United States. Mistreatment of works or labors misbeh...

Search for a Practical Usable Tablet
Since before Thanksgiving I have been slowing giving into the idea of getting a tablet. I have looked at all the major brands of tablets and eReaders. I have been trying to imagine how often I would use it. I watch how other people would use their tablets. While attending a local trade show I noticed a large majority of the vendors were using iPads. There were only a few who had other tablets....

Shopping for Shoes – Intro

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on September 3, 2010 in Clothing, Home - Comments: 5 Comments »

Before Sex in the City, it is accepted that women like fancy shoes, with high heels. Men are not any more practical. Men what boot to look and feel macho. Both are not necessarily the best approach to buying shoes.

21st century has taken over, even the shoe industry. I am sure many of you have see the TV commercial that suggests you don’t have to go to the gym. All you have to do is wear this certain brand of tennis shoe.

Over the years I have went from wearing tennis shoes, heavy engineer boots, hard black leather dress shoes, to sandals. At home I walk around barefooted. When I am out and about I wear sandals. That is when I can get away with it.

There should be some basic considerations before heading out the door to buy shoes. I would recommend you write down your wants and needs in a shoe before you head out the door.

The Shoe Must Match Where Your Feet are going. Shop for the shoe that  matches where you are going and what time of walking you are going to be doing. Women don’t wear those high heels to work. Especially when you know that you are going to be walking a lot. Get a low hear and something that is comfortable. Men, tennis shoes for work on a construction site may seem comfortable. but they will do to protect you feet if something heavy falls on it.

Comfortable Fit – Shoes are like any other piece of clothing. Fit is not the same from one manufacture to another or style to another. Put both shoes on. Then walk back and forth for at least 20 feet a few times. Then try the next size up.

Realize one style of shoe may not be a good fit for you. Try another style of shoe that is designed for the same type of activity.

The best time to buy shoes is either late in the afternoon or early in the evening. Realize it or not, your feet swell during the day. They are at their largest during late afternoon. Thus making it the best time to try on shoes.

Health Considerations - Do you have a health condition that requires a special shoe? Foot injuries, low or high arches, back problems and even diabetes will require certain type of shoe.

Several years ago I was surprised to learn that people with diabetes need special shoes. Diabetes is one medical condition that you would not think requires special shoes. There are many foot problems associated with long-term or poorly controlled diabetes. For more information on this subject I refer you to eHow.com. They have a good introduction on diabetics need for special shoes.

Style and Fashion – Last but often put in first place, what styles and looks do you want in a shoe? Younger folks more so than older want shoes that are in fashion and look good. However, if a shoe looks good and does not work you when you are going to be wearing it. It is a waste of money.

Bottom-line: I hate to hear that any of you went out spend $20, $30, $40 or more on a pair of shoes that does not fit or causes you great discomfort. Because in my book you have wasted your money.
You walk on your feet everyday. What you put on and under your feet, like the Dr Scholle’s commercial, it will affect your attitude. Don’t rush out and buy a pair of shoes because they look cool. Do some research. We will write more on this subject.
