Las Vegas is a great place to go for a getaway vacation. It is also know as one of the most popular places to hold a trade show. If you look at the Las Vegas Convention Convention Center there is back to back trade shows. Gas Mileage Lies
On morning news there was a sniped about a lady who sued Honda for misrepresentation of their gas mileage. It was in small claims court, but still won $10,000. Interesting! It has become pretty much accepted, by all of us, what the sticker gas mileage would be under ideal condition. I am glad someone has stepped up to say, "We are not going to take it anymore!" When I look at different makes...
Touch Screen Desktop Computers
I first saw touch screens computers in the food processing industry back in the late 90's. Since then the technology and the price has been slowly been dropping. As a result we now see more cell phones with touch screens than without. The overall adoption of a touch screen desktop computer has been slow mostly because of the cost. We are seeing the price going under the $1,000 mark. This makes ...
Social Responsible Buying
Last week the name Foxconn and Apple were in all the headlines. It was not about great profits, or some new electronic gadget. It was about the inhumane treatment of the workers in China. What is interesting to note is that Foxconn does not just manufacture electronics for Apple. Foxconn manufacture over 50% of the electronics sold in the United States. Mistreatment of works or labors misbeh...

Search for a Practical Usable Tablet
Since before Thanksgiving I have been slowing giving into the idea of getting a tablet. I have looked at all the major brands of tablets and eReaders. I have been trying to imagine how often I would use it. I watch how other people would use their tablets. While attending a local trade show I noticed a large majority of the vendors were using iPads. There were only a few who had other tablets....
Cruise or Not to Cruise
Here we are at the end of January 2012. Texas is getting heavy rains. Snow and Cold is covering most all of the northern hemisphere. I close my eyes and think of a hot summer day with the sun beating down on may face. Then in an instant, I jump into a nice cool swimming pool. Yes, what better time to plan a summer vacation than when the chilling cold is biting your bones, and the sky is all gloomy...

Shopping Day

Have you ever wondered what Shopping Day is like for The Shopping Nazi?

When I say Shopping Day, I refer to that day twice a month where we restock and upgrade. This day corresponds to the day my wife and I get paid. It is, usually the day we are off work. Yesterday, was one of those days. I thought it would be good for you see how we go through our shopping day.

Preparation: Between the time of waking up and leaving the house we check the balance in our house checking account. We review the grocery list that we have saved on Grocery Wiz. Finally, before leaving we talk about what we would like to get for the house and our route.

1st Stop Breakfast – I firmly believe that no one should go shopping on an empty stomach. In addition to this I would add that no one should go shopping when they are stressed or in any sort of emotional turmoil.  Why? Because you will start responding to sales and pretty displays.

2ed Stop (Wal Mart) – Yesterday, we started at Wal Mart because it is the furthest store away from our place. This way we can work homeward. This save us on gas.

While at Wal Mart we got shampoo and toothpaste, because we have found they have best prices and widest selection. Then we stopped at the shoe department to look at summer sandals, for myself. I found a pair for $12. We only bought a few items in the grocery section.

3rd Stop (K mart) - I want to stop at K mart to price a few item. I find it is always good, even if we are not going to buy anything at a particular store, it is good to stop in once a month. We found 2 gigabyte mini SD cards for $18. Girls 21″ and 26″ bicycles for around $100.

4th Stop (Bread Store) – The bread store or day old bread store, as it is more commonly known, is a great place to stock up on bread. The particular day old bread store we go to has a nice selection of soup mixes, that my wife likes. Besides if we spend over $10 we get a free box of Twinkies. That is something my daughter like as a snack.

5th Stop (Winco) - Winco is our last stop. It is the place where we do the bulk of grocery shopping. Considering everything that we buy Winco matches or is cheaper.

Finally, we head home. When we get home the car is unloaded, and everything is put away. Then a quick totally of all the receipts, we looked at each other and smiled. We had got everything we wanted. We were under budget.

Tell me about your shopping day. Is it a pleasant experience or is it one you hate?
