Setting Priorities

Setting priorities and watching where our money goes can be a very painful thing. Especially when it gets close to pay day and there is not money to buy lunch a McDonald’s.

Some time back, I was watching a group of people leaving working from a local business that employed a 1,000+ men and women. Over 90% of them make the same hourly wage. However, you would not think that by the way each one dress and the car they were driving.

No matter what we believe about our life, family, or business, we all have priorities. Where we spend our money tells where our priority is. Some people manage their finances with a magnifying glass. Other people are purely reactionary and are ruled by their emotions. This is why we see  so many people who always have enough money for cable TV, pizza, and cigarettes, but no money for taking care of their car, or health insurance.

Priorities properly set can save several $100′s a year, and raise their lifestyle at the same time. Just by not going to a rent-to-own store for a new washer and dryer, but saving up enough money until you can shop around for the best deal. The difference between the rent-to-own store on that same washer and dryer on sale will be anywhere from $200 to $400.

A little thing that I do that saves us about $30 a year is buying in bulk. I like Arizona Green Tea with Honey and Ginseng. I can by 42 ounce bottle for 98 cent at the local grocery store. A gallon is $2.48 for 128 fluid ounces. That is 2.67 refills of a 42 ounce contain. Buying a gallon jug it drops my costs 93 cents for that 42 ounce bottle.

So by buying in gallon I am saving just over 13 cents per gallon. You may say that is not worth the energy of refilling the 42 ounce container from the gallon jug. Did I not mention that it averages to about $30 per year.

So by setting a priority of saving money on my green tea, we can put $30 extra into saving, or go out to dinner one more time a year, or pay for a months gas bill.

Tell me about your priorities? What is important to you?
