The microwave ovens has been around for only a very short time. At first they were big heavy and expensive. At one time if you had a microwave oven, you were living on the cutting edge of technology. Today, you are behind the times if you do not have a one.
Most people I talk to or observe have only three basic requirements when it comes to a microwave oven. One, that it fits in certain place in the kitchen. Two, there cooking dish fits inside. Three, that it works.
The average household depends on the microwave oven in cooking some part, if not all of any meal. It is not just in the home where the microwave is used, but restaurants depend on the microwave oven to heat certain food items before taking it out to the dinning area.
The two main factors that must be consider before buying any microwave is:
Wattage -Next to where the microwave oven is going to be placed, the amount of energy put into the food, to get it heated. Watts is the rating for this amount of energy.
300 watts microwave oven is considered the slow cooker of microwave ovens. This is for a family that does a lot of defrosting. 1,300 watt microwave oven will give you almost instant boiling water. 1,000 watt microwave ovens is considered the most common size.
Size of Oven – For most people the size of the oven compartment is not really considered until that Hungry Man TV dinner won’t fit inside the microwave. A 0.5 cubit ft is for boiling a cup or two of boiling water. The larger 2.2 cubit foot oven is great for the casserole dish and other large cooking dishes.
Bottom-line: Before getting a microwave oven look at the counter space where you want to put it. Look at the meals you normally cook. Look at the size of dishes you would normally use for cooking. (Remember that not all cookware can be used in the microwave.) Then find the microwave oven that would fit your needs.
