I have not lived through too many Memorial Days that have been rainy and overcast. Even the local weatherman, this Memorial Day, was not believable when he said we could BBQ our hamburgers and hot dogs.
Instead of heading out for a leisurely time at the park, we were forced for an alternate place to spend some quality time as a family. The gloomy rainy overcast eliminate any outdoor Memorial Day activity. The only alternative that was left was to walk the mall.
Driving up to the parking lot packed, we found it packed like the middle of the Christmas shopping season. It looked like we were not alone in wanting to get out of the house. Many would be Memorial Day hikers, bikers, and picnickers were driven to the Boise Towne Square Mall, just because of the drizzling rain.
This was why malls were originally created. It was not until the 1950′s that fully enclosed shopping malls were built. They were built to not only bring multiple shops together in one place, but give the shoppers an enclosed environment to where they could go from store to store in a comfortable manner.
This Memorial Day saw people driven indoors because of the weather. The Boise Towne Square Mall was perfect place. In addition when people go to the mall, they are going to spend money. That money was going to help store with their bottom line in an economy that is struggling to recover.
Soccer moms were lined up out the door of Starbucks getting their afternoon espresso for more energy to shop. Shoppers were going from one store to another carrying their red, white, and yellow plastic shopping with store logos and slogans. The adrenaline rush from shopping quickly took over the gloom of a rainy Memorial Day.
I quickly noticed a large number of people were walking around talking on their cell phones. It seemed there were displace separated family members needed to get reconnected. They were doing this through the use of their cell phones. I over heard one elderly woman say, “I am afraid that I will get lost. I don’t have my phone.”
It was after 3 pm when the strategically placed benches started to fill up with weary spouses of hardcore shoppers. Even through a large number of people made the best of a bad situation this Memorial Day. The economy got a little boost this rainy Memorial Day at the Boise Towne Square Mall.
