Halloween or Harvest Festival, whatever you want to call it. The last day of October opens the door for children of all ages to dress up. In fact, I cannot think of any other day where one can dress up in their favorite, alter ego, character or scary figure, and have so much fun.
Years ago, I took a special movie make up class. Then spend over a $100 in make up, latex skin, and a false nose. Then I went to the local Goodwill bought some old cloths.
I took that day off from work just to get ready for a Halloween party. At 6 p.m. I walked out of my apartment dressed, walking and smelling like a drunk sailor. Then I went over to a friend’s place where he was getting dressed up as an ole sea hag. From there we went off the a Halloween party.
We arrived to a party where our closest friends dressed in their Halloween outfits. We almost didn’t get in the door, because the door keeper didn’t recognize us. Our costumes were so good. The old sea hag and me got 6 feet in the living room when the hostess came over and asked us to leave. She thought we were really an old drunken couple.
When I with a wink, I said her name in my real voice, she realized who we were. Then we were allow to stay for the rest of the party, provided we behaved ourselves.
This year I did a recon to some local seller of Halloween costumes. Kmart offered a wide variety ranging from $5 to $140. Custom costume stores will have much wider variety of noses, ears, makeup, masks, and complete costumes. They are generally more expensive because they are a seasonal business.
My person favorite Halloween costume is found at the local thrift store that is run by a charity, like Goodwill or Salvation. A mixture of old cloths, a little extra piece of cloth, then some makeup, along with a dash of imagination can create a memorial costume for under $5.00.
