It is Friday. The week has been long and rough. Everyone is waiting for the work week to end. Tomorrow morning is when we can all sleep in past 5:30 am. No one has any energy to spend much of any time in the kitchen, but everyone is going be hungry come dinner time.
While everyone was getting ready for the day’s activities, I ask if there were any requests for dinner. As usual each family member spoke up with own favorite comfort food. Chinese, hamburgers, pizza, and Mexican food. What was interesting enough they were all items were not fixed at home.
It is known in the restaurant business that Friday evening is very popular for families going to eat. The average family will spend $10 to $20 per person, or even more. The similar meal at home will cost $10 to $20, for the whole meal.
Saving money requires self discipline, commitment, work, planning, and a bit of creativity. There is no difference for when it comes to Friday night and all the family wants is some comfort food. The first impulse is to head to the family favorite restaurant. The second response would be to take-out or take-n-bake. The last least favorite is fix something at home.
Hot Dogs and Hamburgers are usually something that can be fixed quickly. Especially in the summertime on a gas barbecue grill. Each family member gets to fix their burger in the way they want.
Nachos is made with a large bag of corn chips, scramble some hamburger, added salsa, then top with melted Velveeta cheese. Of course you customize it with your personal favorites.
Chicken Salad Sandwiches or Tuna salad sandwiches are quick and easy to put together. The chicken can be leftovers from earlier in the week.
Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Soup is for me good standby for a quick and easy meal. Here you can be creative by putting bacon in the cheese sandwich as you grill it.
Build Your Own Pizza can be done with canned biscuit dough as the crust. Flaten out the dough to make little pizzas. The choice of toppings are only limited to what is in the kitchen and the imagination of the one who is going to eat it. This can be fun and quite interesting at the same time.
If you have any favorite Friday Night Eats you would like to share. Please do so. I would be interested in hearing from you.
