One morning while waiting for my daughter to head off to school, I had some time to kill. This morning I spent it by flipping through the channels on the television. I go to 66 or 67 and notice a program that appeared to be just another infomercial. It caught my attention to the point that I decided to watch it for a few minutes.
They were promoting something called Chaseit. I was about gift cards. Then sending you a check for a cash back on gift cards you purchase? Once you bought a $50 gift card you would get a check in the mail for $6.59. That was about a 13% off the purchase of the gift card.
This sparked my interest. If this was for real, What I found was a website loaded with name brand merchant gift cards. I could buy one of these gift cards for say Zappos, then get additional saving means I could really save along with Zappos free shipping. Now that sounds like a good deal.
The selling style was similar to QVC. The pitchman on TV said during the infomercial I would get the $6.59 check for my purchase of the gift card. Then I thought if they would offer during non-infomercial times.
A Zappos gift card during the non-infomercial gets me a return of just a $5 check. Most of the other gift cards give you a $2 to $3 return. This does not cover the tip when I go out to Chilli’s. Now if I was buying a lot $50 gift cards for presents, or game prizes, it would be worth my energy. But for someone who only buys a few of $10 or $20 for presents to people who I just figure out what I am going to buy them, Chaseit is not for me.
I almost never buy gift cards. I prefer to give a gift. To me a gift card says. I couldn’t think of what to get you so I bought you this gift card.
