Last week when I walked into the place where I get my haircut, I was greeted by the owner. In her hand was a plastic shopping bag that containing a DVD player. As she raised the bag to my chest level she said, “It doesn’t work, I need you to fix it.”
I took the DVD player and started to look at it. After about five minutes, I realized it was time to replace. the drive motor for spinning the DVD’s was burned out. What caused the DVD motor to burn out was the thin medal case pressed down on the drive assembly not letting it to spin.
In general budget models will provide a “good” picture, the only real difference it the case and name on the outside. It is difficult for most “everyday consumers” to discern the difference in picture quality between different DVD players on TVs 27-inch or smaller. The holds true for the sound quality if the sound is reproduced only by the TV’s speakers.
If you want to know the technical details of how a DVD player works and what you should be looking for in a DVD player that meets your needs go to TimeForDVD.com.
Since the DVD player was ready for the electronic recycling bin, I headed over to Cnet.com to get their take as to what is the best DVD player is for the money. Then I filter all the reviews by Editors ratings, because this way I could see star ratings of editors and users at the same time. There top two players cost between $225 and $400.
I already knew the owner did not want to spend more than $100 for a player. So I went over to Amazon.com and found quite a few for under $50. There was the Sony’s DVP-SR200P under $50.
Amazon rated the Sony’s DVP-SR200P with a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The Best Buy website rated the DVPSR200P/B 4.5 stars out of 5. However, Reviews from Cnet about Sony’s DVP-SR200P was not so positive with 3 stars given by only 9 reviews.
Bottom-line: You got to consider the type of people who go to Cnet as opposed to Amazon.com. Cnet readers want more performance. The Amazon.com just want good functionality and ease of use.
The following day I was in my local Wal Mart, so went to the electronic section to see what they had for DVD player. Sure enough they had the Sony’s DVP-SR200P.
I pick it up squeeze it. It was build sold, felt sold. I would definitely recommend the Sony’s DVP-SR200P.
