How does The Shopping Nazi relax and unwind after a long hard week? Go Shopping? Yes, go shopping, but just any place. I like to go shopping at yard sales!
I am not into extreme sports. I do enjoy time with my family and friends. However, in the summer time when it gets close to Friday every muscle in my body starts to twitch. My thoughts start thinking of where I might in search of a yard sale, and what I might find.
You see the anticipation of getting in my car and driving down major street in search of that ever tell tale sign. I like the handmade signs from plain cardboard. I must admit the florescent green ones do catch my attention. The lettering drawn from a magic marker. Some of these signs are attach to power poles, others are hung from the back of parked cars, or attached to a cardboard box sitting on the ground. So I really have to keep my eye pealed for that elusive sign with an arrow pointing me in the direction my must go.
Getting to a yard sale can be a journey though neighborhood of varying architecture and lifestyles. The really good yard sales are never just a block from a major street. You have to make 3 left turns and 2 right turns just to get there. If you miss the small sign with just an arrow, you will never find it.
Now when I get there, there is treasures of unknown value and origin. It is like a Treasure Island. Once the Treasure Island is reach there is no predicting what booty will be found.
I have found 3 nice nearly new polo shirt that fit like they were tailor-made for me. There was the time where I got a $100 office chair for $5. Oh yes, there one time I found a expensive roller cabinet full of mechanic tools for $300. The tools were worth several thousand dollars. The wife was selling her husband’s tools because he was going to prison, and was not expected to get out for over 30 years.
I must admit that most of the time, I do not buy anything. I mostly just go and look at is being sold. I talk to the seller. Inside I am hoping to find that one item, I didn’t know that I needed.
Yes, I am a Yard Sale Junkie and I enjoy being one.
