I just about everyone from a young child to full grown adult that likes chocolate milk. Some drink in from a carton or plastic bottle. Then there are those who buy a gallon of 2% milk and chocolate drink mix. Then we mix it together when we have an urge for chocolate milk.
It takes approximately 1.5 ounces of chocolate drink mix to make a 16 ounce glass of chocolate milk. That comes to 13 cents for chocolate drink mix and 25 cents for 16 ounces of 2% milk, making 38 cents per glass of chocolate milk. That is if you use generic brand drink mix.
{+}
Winco‘s generic brand HiTop comes in a 30 ounce container for $2.60. Which breaks down to 8.6 cents per ounce. While Nestle’s sell it’s chocolate drink mix in 38 ounce containers for $3.28. That is 8.6 cents per ounce. In reality, no real difference in cost between the generic and brand name chocolate drink mix.
Now if you don’t want the work and just convenience, a 16 fluid ounce plastic bottle of Nestle’s chocolate milk sells for $1.34. Well, that is 96 cents more than making it myself. The vending machine at work sells the same thing for $2.50.
