Burger is a Burger???

Hamburger has often been called the poor mans steak. That was true back in the 1960’s and 1970’s where

burger

hamburger was 25 to 30 cents per pound. Today you cannot find hamburger with 2% meat at that price.

I remember back in 1973, the price of hamburger went up to 45 cents per pound. At that time I was ready to start protesting in front of a major grocery chain. I could not believe that they was so greedy as to charge 45 cents for a pound of hamburger.

Well, yesterday, I went shopping with my wife. She does not get hamburger. I refuse to pay good money for water, fat and some meat. We get ground turkey meat, instead.

Ground turkey meat has less fat. Besides it cost less.

  • Extra Lean Hamburger (which is the equivalent to ground turkey) cost $3.18 per pound.
  • 5 pounds of ground turkey meat is $5.78. That make it just under $1.16 a pound.
