Mitsubishi is one of those name it is easy to recognize, but hard to spell. There interest are in more than just cars. I have seen Mitsubishi products ranging from electronics to HVAC, and of course cars.
Edmunds.com called the Lancer, “underpowered and not particularly entertaining to drive, its interior was simply.” This is not a very good recommendation.
Consider that under the hood is only a 152-horsepower (143 hp in California-emissions-level states) inline-4. The GTS bumps up the engine to 2.4-liter, 168-hp with four cylinders. Then put 18-inch wheels makes the Lancer appear over sized and under powered.
The Mitsubishi Lancer was first launched for the 2002 model year. It had a make over in 2008. Those results are not that impressive.
New Lancers are in the range of $14,000 to $27,000. You can get a used 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer for around $7,000.
I first got nervious when I saw the Lancer had recalls on Air bags:frontal:sensor/control module, for the 2008 model year. The other five of six recalls were for exterior lighting and headlights.
Mileage is a modest 21 to 27 miles per gallon. For a car in this class you could do better.
Bottom-line: Mitsubishi Lancer is not one of those cars to get you excited. This is one car to pass when looking for an new or used.
