The name Jeep has around since its beginnings back in early part of World War II as a military transport vehicle. The brand Jeep has always referred to a rough off road vehicle. Today, it has change to a rugged outdoors means of transportation.
Just like its’ image Jeep Grand Cherokee has been around since the early 1990′s. At one point I heard they were not going to make anymore, but that is not the case. The Jeep keeps rolling along.
Edmunds.com likes the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee models that come standard with a 3.7 liter V6 engine that delivers 210 horsepower. However, you can upgrade to 5.7 liter Hemi V8 that offers 357 hp. There is also a high-performance SRT8 model with a 6.1 liter V8 that generates 420 hp. Each mode of the Cherokee comes with a five speed automatic transmission.
US News and World Reports ranks 14 out of 23 for Affordable Midsize SUVs. Everyone likes the acceleration of the Hemi V8 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, along with the passenger and cargo room. But they are not so excited about the fuel economy of 16 to21 mpg. This is quite low compared to most SUVs.
Automotive.com paints a rather unflattering picture of the Grand Cherokee. Since 1993 there has been recalls for every years. The recalls range for lighting, electrical, air bags, to brakes.
To get a new Jeep Grand Cherokee it will cost you $30,000 to $45,000. I did find five year old models on Zidaho.com selling for $20,000 range.
Bottom-line: If I were to go off just what the reviewers said, I would stay away from the Jeep Grand Cherokee. If I were to just listen to the what Jeep owners say, I would get a Jeep. But weighing in the fuel mileage and number of recalls, I will pass on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
