I know that in different parts of the United States, different types of vehicles are more popular than others. When I first came to Idaho 4 wheel drive trucks were more popular than regular cars. The Ford Fiesta is a rarely sighted in Idaho. It was not until scanning through an automotive website that I found the Ford Fiesta was still being made.
I was amused to find the number of websites devoted to the history of the Ford Fiesta. Ford-Fiesta.info has a nice little phone gallery along with showcasing the history of the Ford Fiesta. The Fiesta was originally launched in 1976 through out Europe. Then in 1978 the”Americanised” version made its debut in the United States. Where it was marketed as a subcompact car.
AutoGuide.com simply lists the Fiesta’s two basic flavors; a five door hatchback and four-door sedan. Both models have front wheel drive powered by a 1.6 liter four cylinder, that produces 120 horsepower. When it comes to the transmission there is a choice. A conventional five speed manual or a six-speed automatic that Ford dubs PowerShift.
Edmunds.com likes the 2011 Ford Fiesta, because it gives economy car shoppers a reason to get excited. The listed pros are sporty driving dynamics, smooth and peppy engine, high fuel economy, welcoming cabin, available high-end luxury features. However, they did not like the limited cargo and rear seat space, conventional navigation system unavailable (like GPS).
US News and World Report said the Ford Fiesta is fun to drive, high build quality, comfortable, upscale cabin for the price, and its’ Hybrid like fuel economy. After all who can argue with 28 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway.
In my research through out the world wide web, I could find only three recalls, that were on the 1978 model year. Ford must of have been making Quality Job #1, when it comes to the Fiesta.
Now it will cost you only $12,000 to $18,000 to drive a new Ford Fiesta off the dealership’s lot. I could not find much on older Ford Fiesta’s. I guest people are not selling their old Fiesta’s.
Bottom-line: The Ford Fiesta is the little car that can and will. This is not a big roomy car. It is small, great gas mileage, and great for running around town or commuting. I would buy one.
