Auto Recon – Chevy Traverse

The Chevy Traverse is another one of those crossover from SUV, mini van, station wagon combos. It hit the streets in 2009, as a family vacation day beach transportation vehicle.

Edmunds.com has a lot of good things to say about the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. A full size crossover SUV that is a solid performer. The Traverse seats up to eight people plus two adults in the third row. It hauls lots of cargo while looking good.

Under the hood is a 3.6-liter V6 connect to a six-speed automatic with manual shift control producing 281 to 288 horsepower.  Did I mention that the Traverse discharges exploding gases through dual exhausts.

With all this power Chevy offers a 5,200-pound towing capacity, and a trailering package. This is available on all trim levels. Including heavy duty engine cooler and trailer hitch. To move the Chevy Traverse and whatever it is towing is either a 18-inch 20-inch alloy wheels.

Other features include eight-way power driver seat, leather wrapped steering wheel, rear parking sensors and remote start, Bluetooth, tri-zone automatic climate control, 10-speaker Bose system, rear audio system controls, seven-passenger seating featuring second-row captain’s chairs, a power lift gate and a rear view camera integrated into the rear view mirror. You need a power full engine just to move the Traverse and all of its’ extras.

The Chevy Traverse is safe with all of its safety features. This includes, anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags.  These safety features are standard on every 2009 Chevrolet Traverse.

A family save vehicle with power, room and safe will cost you from just under $30,000 then over $40,000.

Now for the negative. AutoRecalls.us list three recalls for the 2009 model. They range from parking brake, transmission linkage to seat belt buckle. The forum for the Chevy Traverse talks about battery and several annoying issues. This is to be expected for a vehicle that has only been on the road a couple of years.

Bottom-line: I like the Chevy Traverse. I was impressed by MSN.com‘s reviews and ratings. Considering the amount of money I would to have to put out for a Traverse, I think I will wait. It has only been on the road for two years, I am going to pass for now. I want to see its’ performance over at least a five year period.
