Clear Expectation of Service
Several years ago, I worked briefly at this computer store. The owner would change the terms of service at least once a week, if not more. When I left there the Terms of Service was very fine print on the back of every receipt. The receipt was printed on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. This is nothing unusual. Every business has literature that states where their responsibly starts and where ...
Shopping for a 32 Inch LCD
I love sitting around coffee shops, and lounge area. What I over hear is so amazing. Just the other day this guy asked a friend, "Where was the best place to get a LCD TV?" The friend answered quick, "Fred Meyer, they have the best prices." I was so tempted to lean over and ask what empirical data he was making statement. Instead I bit my tongue. Without any ceremony, I got up and walked t...

Shopping for a Mattress – Intro
Next to marriage and underwear the mattress you sleep on is the next personal thing in your life. It has been my experience that what on individual sleeps well on is another individuals restless nights sleep. So when asked to help buy as mattress, I had to start with the basics. The number of different types of mattresses far exceeds the three Goldilocks came across in the three bears cottage. ...

AAA, and AA

Posted By: The Shopping Nazi on October 17, 2009 in Appliances, Bargin Places, Home - Comments: Comments Off

batteriesIt is Fall. Days are getting shorter. That means I will be riding my bike more at night. In the interest of safety encouraged me to get a head and tail light for my bike.  I found a good deal on a head and tail light for under $15.

Like most things they did not with batteries. Naturally, I thought that I had some AA batteries at home, from the last time I bought a pack of AA batteries. This was not the case when I got home.

I needed 2 AAA batteries for the tail light and 4 AA batteries for the head light. All I had in the battery storage bin was 3 AA batteries. Just 1 battery short for the headlight and no batteries for the taillight.

Fortunately, the next day we were making another trip back to Wal Mart. I stood in front of the battery rack feeling like Wal Mart was getting ready to rip me off.

Wal Mart only offered packs of  8 AA and AAA batteries for a mere price $5.50. That meant I would have to spend $11 in batteries to get the lights on my bicycle to work. I just needed 2 of the AAA and 4 of the AA.

I looked around the check out stands and found a 4 pack of AA batteries for $2.50. That would make the batteries cost me $8. That would be more than half the price of the lights for my bicycle.

Feeling ripped off, we bought the 8 pack AAA batteries for $5.50 plus tax. At this point I was going to settle for just having a tail light until I found a better price on the AA batteries.

On the way home we had to stop the the local 99 cent store, to pick up some other items. While we were standing in the checkout line, my eyes briefly scanned the rack of impulse buy items, that every store has a you wait to check out.

My eyes fell on a Heavenly provision. There in front of me was a 4 pack of Every Ready AA batteries. Since I was in a 99 cent store, that 4 pack of AAA batteries was only 99  cents plus tax.

I quickly unhooked the pack of batteries from its’ display hook, and put that 4 pack with the rest of items we were buying.

At that point I smiled. I had saved $1.50.

Wal Mart’s batteries even though in a larger pack were $5.50 breaks down to 68.75 per battery. The 99 cent store’s batteries cost was only 25 per battery, for the same brand. My savings were 43 cents per battery.
