A Loaf is Not a Loaf of Bread

The price of bread is pretty much the same. What is inside the wrapper varies from light almost air, to large amounts of whole wheat and other healthy things. Now the number and thickness of slices in that loaf of  bread also vary.

When I went to Yahoo Answers, I was told about 20 slices of bread per loaf depends on whether thin, medium or thick cut. I always new there was different thicknesses of sliced bread, but I did not know there was so many. After a little research with a caliphier I found bread in 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″ and 1″ thickness. The 1″ thickness is bread that is labeled Texas Toast. Sandwich bread comes at 5/8″ thick.

Now the length of  loaf of bread varies also. This will result the number of slices in a loaf. However on the average a loaf of bread will vary from 11 to 21 slices.  This does not include bread ends.

We get sandwich bread with 21 slices. That gives bread for 10 sandwiches, then we use the remainder to make bread pudding. That is why I figure bread for a sandwich to be 19 cents.
