Have you ever bought a new printer, then when you get home you find one all important item missing. I am talking about the cable that connects from the printer to your computer.
Don’t feel bad. You are not alone. I have never seen a new printer that comes with a USB cable.
Not everyone reads the outside of the box. If they did they would notice the lack of a USB cable being included in the list of included items.
After the revelation of the missing USB cable, there is an angry phone call to the store where the printer was purchased. Then a rush to buy that cable at a premium price, and back home to finish the install of the printer.
Now depending upon where you go for that USB cable, you could find yourself spending $5 to $20. What is the difference? Well, let us take a look at a three stores and what they charge for a 6 foot USB cable.
- ShopKo – $14.99, sometimes on sale for $9.99
- Wal Mart - $8.88
- Target - $7.99
- Big Lots – $5.00
If you have the patience, ordering a 6′ cable from an online store will cost you, plus shipping.
- Buy.com – $7.99
- Geeks.com – $7.95
- NewEgg.com – $5.99
- Amazon.com – $0.82
Yes, you can buy 6 foot cables up to $30. But if don’t panic you can find that cable for much less.
If you are connecting a printer to your computer, there is not need for high quality expensive cable. If you transferring large detail end data a better quality cables is recommended. At that point I would consult equipment manufactures for their specs.
