While at a local coffee shop, I walked by a table where there a portion of the local newspaper lying on the table. The lead article on that page was, “More Local Programs to help you get healthy in 2010″.
As I walked away it got me thinking that about all the advertisements I have seeing around getting healthy. I know that every January millions of people flock to gyms, Weight Watchers and countless other get healthy resources. Then by March it is something that is being paid for, but not used.
About a week ago, a friend came up to me, with a big smile on her face. She proceeded to tell me that she had just came from the gym. She was feeling great. This was her first visit to the gym since she got the membership several months ago. Did I mention that she live four block from the gym!
That particular gym’s membership starts at $24.95 per month. So if she had not gone to the gym for say, three months. She had thrown away $74.85.
I have a deluxe membership. It allows me visit any Gold’s Gym without paying extra. I pay $45.24 per month. I got the rate with a 2 year commitment. Every time I look at my bank statement and see the $45.24 charged, then I get up and go to the gym. Even if I had gone the day before.
In my way of thinking, if I pay for some thing, I better use it.
I see people get gym memberships, health club membership, and start countless other healthy activities just to feel or look better. I am not discounting the need to be healthy along with its’ other benefits, but money has been known to be a powerful motivator.
I hear many people say they loose motivation or have trouble getting motivated. Maybe their motivation should be the money they are throwing away. Not using anything that you have paid hard earned money to get is a waste.
Don’t make excuses. Don’t waste a resource that you have invested into make better. That is your own health and well being.
